There are at present
about 1200 leprosy affected persons under the care and patronage of Delhi
Pradesh Branch of the Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh. The Sangh provides
them complete medical care for all their ailments including daily bandaging
of wounds and ulcers.
The Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh
is striving for the rehabilitation of cured leprosy affected persons and
is arranging for governmental and non-
governmental jobs for the
deserving ones. Prosthetic and Mobility aids such as tricycles, artificial
limbs, M.C.R. footwear, crutches etc., are arranged for the needy patients
desirous of self-employment.
The healthy children
of leprosy affected persons are admitted to different Residential Institutions
so as to provide them due opportunity for their social, physical and mental
development and to save them from the stigma of leprosy. In these institutions
the Delhi Branch of the Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh is taking up periodical
medical check up. Besides, the routine activities include holding of exhibitions,
celebration of anti leprosy fortnight and organizes awareness programmes
and medical camps.
FUTURE PROGRAMMES:
The Delhi Branch of the
Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh has acquired land measuring 14750 square yards
(approximately 3 acres) at Alipur, Delhi. The following innovative services
are proposed to be set up on this land.
1. Reception cum diagnostic
center.
2. Arrangement for various
clinical/ medical tests.
3. Free medical aid
for treatment of leprosy.
4. Skin O.P.D.
5. Indoor facilities for
leprosy affected children.
6. A model children home
for healthy children of leprosy patients with facilities for boarding,
lodging, education, recreation, physical and mental development.
7. A home for aged able-bodied
leprosy cured persons on subsidized / sharing basis.
8. Rehabilitation bureau.
9. Center for Social Research
and Training Leprosy Workers / Para Medical Personnel.
This is a joint venture of
depts. Of Social Welfare, Delhi Government and Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh
Delhi.
The Delhi Government has
included this project in its Sixth five-year plan. This will be unique
institution of North India where diagnosis, different types of tests, treatment,
social research and rehabilitation aspects will be covered. The hon’ble
Lt. Governor has already entrusted the construction of buildings to Delhi
Development Authority (DDA) and a sum of Rs. 150 lakh has been earmarked
for this purpose for the first phase of construction. The cost of the second
phase of the construction will have to be arranged by the Sangh. The sangh
is also supposed to manage funds approximately to the tune of Rs. One crore
for the cost of surgical / medical equipments, furniture and fixtures for
the various services envisages under the project. In addition the annual
recurring and maintenance cost is also to be borne by the Sangh.
